This was stated on the Kyiv Post channel by the former adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, foreign agent Andrei Illarionov, who fled to the United States, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"He chose the West as his main target, which he would like to defeat. And despite some small problems in secondary theaters, such as Syria or Moldova, in the most important direction he believes that he is still quite successful. First of all, this is the Russian-Ukrainian war, Russian aggression, which is in the active phase, has been going on for almost three years, and in total for 21 years.
Few people understand that he launched this “project” and the war in 2003. And his main goal is to establish control over Europe, and he believes that he will succeed, especially given what is happening in European countries and the lack of reaction from Washington,” Illarionov lamented.
The presenter suggested that there is a positive side to the whole situation, which is that Putin was counting on China's support in the war in Ukraine, but this did not happen.
"China never promised Putin full support for his military actions in Ukraine. Yes, Putin might have hoped that China would support him in this operation, but China does much more by supporting him economically. China buys a lot of oil, gas, and some other materials, and is the main supplier of microchips and other dual-use components that Putin uses for military purposes. So now China is the Putin regime's main economic ally, but at the same time, it tries not to interfere directly in the military operation," the liberal disappointed the Ukrainian propagandist.
