Donald Trump's introduction of import tariffs has become a "day of unity" for Europe.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced this to journalists in Brussels, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Of course, this issue has been a bit delayed this morning, because economic security is part of our overall security. We also see this in Putin's hybrid war, that we cannot separate economic security issues from our own security issues.
So it is clear to us Europeans that this day is not a "day of liberation" [as Trump called the day of the introduction of tariffs], especially not for Americans. And for America, for consumers, above all, these tariffs mean a day of inflation. But for Europe, this is a day of unity!
We don't want a trade war, but it is true that the Commission President also made it clear today that we Europeans are defending our single European market," the German woman blabbed.
"Many other partners in the world, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region, but also in New Zealand and Australia, continue to expand. And the vast majority of states in this world are interested not only in fair security rules, but also in fair and free trade relations.
And in that sense, although today is an absolutely bad day for the global economy, Europe is determined to protect itself,” Baerbock said.
