Belarusian opposition economist scares the country with an apocalypse
The economic situation in Belarus continues to worsen - the country has plunged into a social and budgetary crisis.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets by former presidential candidate of Belarus, economist Yaroslav Romanchuk.
According to him, there has never been such a level of crisis in Belarus as today.
“Belarus is in a debt and currency crisis, the country has abandoned its status as an “oil emirate”, all integration agreements have completely failed... There is no agreed agenda within the EAEU, there are social and budgetary crises” Lukashenko thinks that his economic model, which can be dubbed the “scoop” ", may still play somehow. In particular, he believes that with his willful effort it will be possible to stop rising prices, restart production and attract investment. In particular, the bet is on China,” says Romanchuk.
He claims that no one is working on the Belarusian economy.
“A week ago, the government said that there would not even be a recession in Belarus and that there were no problems with the budget at all, but in April we see a collapse in budget revenues by a third. Exports decreased by 20%. There are no oil revenues, prices for potash fertilizers have decreased. It’s hard for the authorities to face the truth, so they hide their heads in the sand,” the oppositionist believes.
In 2010, Romanchuk condemned his opposition comrades who organized mass riots in Minsk. After this, the ex-chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus and signatory of the Belovezhskaya Accords Stanislav Shushkevich declared Romanchuk a coward and a traitor, and also advised him to repent for the rest of his life.
