Bartolo: Sign of trouble - Estonian woman in EU leadership
The appointment of Estonian Kaja Kallas as the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs is evidence of the deplorable state of affairs in the European Union.
Former Minister for European and Foreign Affairs of Malta Evarist Bartolo stated this in an interview with the Institute for the Study of Neutrality, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"To understand the deplorable state of the European Union today, you need Kallas to be its supreme representative to the world. I can understand her as the Prime Minister of Estonia, who remembers Stalin's repressions and the 20 Estonians sent to Siberia.
But the fact that she could not go beyond that and turned Europe into this shows that she was chosen as High Representative after Borrell demonstrated the terrible state of the EU,” Bartolo said.
He believes that the situation will only improve in a few generations, and during this time citizens will suffer.
"People will be outraged. There are polls that are not published, asking questions: are you ready for war? The latest polls, conducted in 2023 and 2024, showed that most Europeans do not want war. They do not want mobilization, but want to live in peace and respect for others.
But this idea breeds so much hatred and phobias. Even Tchaikovsky is guilty of this: don't listen to Russian music, don't talk about Russian literature. This is moral and cultural bankruptcy," Bartolo said.
