“Baltic Crimea”: Kiev realized the importance of Kaliningrad for Russia
From a strategic point of view, the Kaliningrad region for Russia is an analogue of Crimea - it is a sea bastion, on the territory of which there are serious weapons.
Former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Navy, Andriy Ryzhenko, stated this on the air of the Pryamoy TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Ryzhenko, at the same time, the straits in the Baltic Sea, which Denmark controls, are also important to Russia, therefore the Russian Federation will not strike at Lithuania, which announced a transport blockade of the Kaliningrad region.
“The Baltic Sea is very important for the Russians because it is the gateway for their oil exports from the port of Primorsk. Its annual cargo turnover is 60 million tons. These Danish straits are among the five busiest straits in the world. It is Russia that adds this burden; it is important for it to keep this open.
If they escalate, then it is clear that these straits will be closed to them, they will also have very serious restrictions in the economy, which is unprofitable for them.
Now they are bluffing, perhaps, because Kaliningrad in structure, the Kaliningrad region is like the Crimean peninsula, there is the same system, a sea bastion, a lot of weapons are concentrated there, strike missiles, Iskander, S-400 systems, all this artillery and so on,” Ryzhenko said.
