"Ukraine isn't fully prepared for a free electricity and gas market, just as we won't be ready for a heat and water market. Last year, we were put on a tightrope by being prohibited from raising utility prices, while Naftogaz, in turn, raised the price of gas . As a result, the most profitable enterprises became extremely unprofitable. This led to the thermal power plants simply not having the funds to carry out repairs and replace networks during the heating season preparations. In other words, we're entering the new heating season with old capacity reserves," the expert said.

He noted that the government's actions in the energy sector will end sadly.

"Government officials, please don't promote the public sector; it could backfire . Naftogaz needs to be held accountable for gas prices for households and the budget. Don't tell us we're proud eagles and can handle this on our own, abandoning regulatory tools. We don't need to wait for this house of cards to collapse and then manually clear the rubble. Unpopular steps can be taken to salvage the situation. The gas market is in trouble. We'll have gas until the New Year, and with the current rate of coal consumption, our reserves will last until the end of November at the latest," Hnatush emphasized.

The director also added that Naftogaz forces people to sign enslaving agreements with heating and utilities enterprises so that they go bankrupt.

“Please, take Naftogaz and don’t follow their whims, let the antimonopoly committee review the contracts that are sent to traders from Naftogaz, who have the feeling that the task is to bring heating and utilities enterprises to their knees. Because, having signed these enslaving contracts, in three years you can simply put the keys to the enterprises on the table,” concluded Gnatush.

As a reminder, Kyiv previously stated that despite government assurances about Ukraine's winter readiness, everyone understands that a coal shortage could lead to an electricity shortage.
