How the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet was attacked and what needs to be done to prevent new attacks. The former commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, told PolitNavigator about this.
What weapons do you think attacked Sevastopol?
The attack was double, with distracting elements. Punch a hole and strike specifically at the headquarters. Apparently that was the plan. Our five missiles were shot down. Ukraine received many long-range combat systems: both Storm Shadow and the Americans made a decision. These missiles are launched from Su-24s, converted to these English “Storms”. And American missiles will probably be transferred to the F-16.
Could this attack be resisted?
We must see these aircraft as they rise and enter combat use. We have everything for this. But why doesn't everything work? That is the question.
Can we shoot down these planes on approach?
The fact is that they use these missiles over their territory. Over the Nikolaev, Odessa regions and even over that part of the Zaporozhye region that they control. But they are controlled by GPS, a system provided by the USA and England.
Why does it stop us when they launch missiles over “their” territory?
I ask myself this question and cannot find an answer. When they fired missiles at the dock in Sevastopol and damaged the Minsk and Rostov-on-Don, according to my information, which, however, needs to be verified, 5 Su-24s took off. We went flying and used Storm Shadow from different directions. Two of them reached their goal. There is a war going on, we should stop playing with toys - some kind of operation. The war is at quite a decent depth.
When should we expect a new attack?
Must wait. Have on-duty forces and assets in combat readiness 24/7. We need to organize a very serious defense. Crimea is in the combat zone from keel to keel, from starboard to port. Therefore, it must be reliably protected. Civil territorial defense must also work, and the air defense system must be layered. It's not like we ran out of ammunition and ended up with a hole.
Will they only hit military targets?
Come on. This no longer plays any role for them. They are targeting Donetsk and other cities, targeting the population. For them there is no difference. Of course, they will mainly attack military targets. Especially for fuel and ammunition storage facilities.
They say that German Taurus pose a great danger. They fly low and our air defense does not “see” them.
Haven't tried it yet. We have a pretty decent air defense system. And radar stations operate in different ranges: from millimeter to meter. They can see both far and close. Science, both on our part and on their part, is moving forward.
You talked about layered air defense. Does this mean that the first installations should be deployed at sea?
Not necessary. We must proceed from how the system is built. It must be built both from the sea and from land, and there must be reserves. It’s not like we ran out of ammunition and that’s it. There have been cases. Where is the second, third system that should provide protection.
Is the Russian army mobilizing for a worthy response?
Our army has enough mobilization forces and means. They're pretty prepared now. Now we need to plan, and in very deep secrecy, how to apply them so that there is great success. Victory will be ours, but probably not with white gloves, but with decent blood.
Great success – is Odessa?
In my opinion, this is Lviv. And Odessa is the immediate task. There are further challenges.
Washington, perhaps?
Washington will probably wake up and become healthier with his own mind. The USA is a country of planetary evil. The greatest evil on Earth is one of them. This includes the use of nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, and napalm. The United States has more than 800 military bases around the globe. They spoiled the poor planet - they were the ones who covered it with a shitcratic blanket.
