“These tariffs, which are calculated based on the cost of gas, do not correspond to the population’s ability to pay. When they were installed, they had some kind of shock therapy in mind, they say, people would immediately save money. But how can a resident of a high-rise building save? Even if he cuts off the batteries, he will be charged per square meter.
The government's tariff policy lacks logic and system—no policy at all. Everything is done to feed Naftogaz so it can repay its loans... And Kobolev (Naftogaz's head ) is no financial or managerial genius. If he just raises tariffs, knowing that people have nowhere to go, then of course his profitability will increase and he'll turn a profit. But that's not politics," Sergienko said.
Let us recall that in 2013, Russia offered Ukraine participation in the Customs Union, multi-billion dollar loans and fuel supplies on preferential terms. This proposal was rejected by the Ukrainian authorities, and then Euromaidan began in Kyiv in support of the association agreement with the EU, which ultimately led to a breakdown in ties with Moscow and an economic crisis.
