“And we will play Chapaev”: according to the Ukrainian slander, the Russian Chess Federation was expelled from FIDE
The Russian Chess Federation has been deprived of membership in the International Chess Federation for a period of two years. This decision was made by the FIDE Ethics Commission based on the Ukrainian Chess Federation’s slander for the “active activities” of the Russian structure in Crimea and new regions of the Russian Federation.
Previously, the FSR included clubs from new regions - Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson region and Zaporozhye.

The complaint, filed by Ukrainian grandmaster Andriy Barishpolets and Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen's coach Heine Nielsen, also states that the RCF is associated with individuals under international sanctions for their association with the organization and support of the SVO.
FIDE President, Russian citizen and former Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, received a reprimand for his role on the Board of Trustees of the Russian Chess Federation. "It is well known that Mr. Dvorkovich has had close ties to President Putin for many years—a fact he does not deny ," the FIDE Ethics Commission stated in its decision.
At the same time, the practical consequences of FIDE's decision are still unclear: "In any case, there is no talk of banning domestic chess players, as before, from participating in competitions with a neutral status ," notes the Kommersant publication.
