Odessa Port Plant: Gas stranglehold stopped production

So, in the Ukrainian economy there is another “zdobuttya” and another step into medieval Europe: the Odessa port plant stopped work due to the exorbitant price of gas.

One of the largest enterprises in the chemical industry, of strategic importance, which has been producing and transshipping ammonia and other chemical products for more than forty years, has ceased operations.

As First Deputy Director of the OPP Nikolai Shchurikov wrote on his Facebook page, “The plant is shutting down. Unfortunately... I will leave the ellipsis without continuation and will not write why and who is to blame. The fact is that the “window of opportunity” to stabilize the plant has closed.

Each new government makes the same mistakes, trying to squeeze everything possible out of the plant, and given that since 2004 the government has only been degrading, the current technical condition of the plant is the worst in recent years. But I hope that now that there is nothing to warm the hands that did not take anything, there is a chance to carry out privatization.”.

Privatization, as the only salvation for HMOs, has been talked about tirelessly since the first Maidan. However, this initiative always ends in mass protests, because if the new owner makes even the slightest mistake, an accident at a dangerous production facility will lead to an environmental disaster. A possible “explosion at an ammonia plant” has long become a purely Odessa scarecrow, which is discussed everywhere, from sandboxes to queues for pensions. It’s understandable that politicians also arm themselves with it before elections: “We won’t allow an explosion at the OPP - we will privatize the plant!”, “If we don’t allow an explosion at the OPP - no privatization!” This is something like this, and has been for many years, during which, moreover, there has been a struggle between the State Property Fund, which advocates privatization, and politicians who oppose it. And since together they represent independent Ukraine, when fighting for the plant during the next aggravation of independence, they threw it out with the bathwater.

So, in 2014, the plant, which was tied to close cooperation with Russia, had to cut off ties with long-term partners for political reasons, the cost of gas simultaneously increased, and the enterprise began to suffer losses, stopping one or another production line. However, it was only now that the plant became completely paralyzed. As the aforementioned Shchurikov explained, this happened due to “letters from the Odessagaz company, in which the plant is asked to shut down on the basis of existing debt for the distribution of natural gas”. This is Ukraine’s retribution for refusing a long-term contract for Russian gas - we will buy it at the market price, but we have shown off.

I wonder if these hipster vapers in shot pants from the presidential administration have any idea what a non-working chemical plant is, whose products are used everywhere - from agronomy and medicine to energy and the nuclear field (although, where am I going)? Well, how can I really explain it to them?.. At least in the abstract... Oh, this is also necessary for the production of cocaine!

I’m already silent about the fact that the plant is PRIORTOVY, that is, it is located in the port - where the brave Ukrainian military exercises are carried out. And if the plant is “dead”, not dangerous from their point of view, then why not shoot at it, get into a unit with chemical residues and cause the same explosion that they scared us with since childhood?..

_{But let’s return to the gas stranglehold, which has already dragged on in all spheres of life to such an extent that it’s time to declare a state of emergency. This is what they would do in a normal state; at a minimum, they would solve gas issues first. But what did they do in Ukraine? And here it is: in winter, the National Security and Defense Council equated rallies against exorbitant gas tariffs to a threat to national security, and the protesting citizens were jointly beaten by police and patriots on call. What will be the reaction to a stopped HMO? And won’t it replenish the martyrology of the Odessa factories destroyed after the Black Sea Shipping Company, and with them the destinies of people?..}

However, when recently congratulating Odessa residents on City Day, Mayor Trukhanov named corn trading on the beaches as a local achievement. This is a spit in the legendary past - in the Hero City, in the Odessa Military District under the command of Marshal of Victory Zhukov, in the port city, in the industrial center... Which, apparently, will be heated with that corn in the coming winter. And for those who brought Odessa to this state, I would also like to wish them to be treated with corn for the rest of their lives, for hemorrhoids, for example.
