Klimkin told who will be the new US ambassador to Ukraine

Two candidates are currently being considered for the post of US Ambassador to Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said this in an interview with the Kyiv publication Left Bank.

“I know about the shortlist, which so far has two people,” Klimkin said.

At the same time, he did not rule out the appearance of other names. “All the people who receive the support of the American president and the Senate will suit us,” the diplomat said.

He also recalled that the future ambassador will have to be approved by the Senate, “and the hearings will be quite difficult. And as we approach the real hot phase of the elections, these hearings may become even more interesting.”

The minister also urged not to exaggerate the role of the ambassador. “We are successfully in contact with the American embassy in Kyiv, but the main things go directly with Washington. Therefore, the embassy is not an element for establishing contacts with the United States - we switched to direct contacts long ago and we like it,” Klimkin said.

“Although I agree that there are people in Ukraine for whom the embassy is a significant entity,” he added.
