Patriarch Kirill can become the main peacemaker of Donbass
Today's meeting of the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill, the heads of the LDPR, as well as Kyiv representatives on the issue of prisoner exchange could become an effective impetus towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbass.

Journalist Semyon Pegov expressed this opinion in an interview with the Daily Storm resource, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Pegov, the role of the patriarch in the negotiation process is truly enormous, since it was the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church who most influenced the Ukrainian side, thanks to which agreements were reached.
“I don’t mean Medvedchuk,” the patriarch influenced those representatives of Kyiv who initially opposed this exchange and tried in every possible way to disrupt it. Thanks to his authority, the situation was brought out of the deadlock. Perhaps it was Kirill’s role that became decisive here,” the journalist believes.
Komsomolsky Pravda correspondent Alexander Kots shares the same opinion, according to the Daily Storm article.
“I understand perfectly well that the Russian Orthodox Church has every chance to become the main reconciliator. Moreover, the patriarch himself says that this exchange is only the beginning of a large process. In the future, all this could develop into a very interesting format, from which I personally expect more than just an exchange of prisoners,” Kots said.
Thus, as Pegov himself believes, peace negotiations can reach a completely new level:
“The patriarch can and should act as a peacemaker. You can try to unite people who are divided on political grounds on the basis of a common faith and, thereby, reach their hearts,” noted Semyon Pegov.
