During the signing of the final declaration of the Batumi Conference, the flag of Moldova, as well as the state emblem on this flag, were positioned incorrectly, and the eagle with a golden cross in its beak was upside down. Sandu chose not to notice this.

“The inverted flag is an international sign that means that the country is in great grief, that it is in a life-threatening, critical condition and is asking for help. The science of flags, vexillology, explains the placement of a flag upside down as a distress signal or defeat in a war,” the article says.
