The US's angry fervor is beginning to fizzle out
Russia does not rule out that the United States will introduce tougher sanctions, and therefore is preparing for such a development of events.
President and Chairman of the Board of VTB Bank Andrei Kostin stated this in an interview with Izvestia, answering the question why versions of bills on tough sanctions against Russia are regularly presented in the United States, but none of them have yet been adopted.
“It seems to me that to a certain extent this evil fuse has fizzled out a little. Including after the publication of the results of the report of prosecutor Mueller, which showed that Russia was in no way involved in the election of US President Donald Trump. But this does not mean that the United States will not impose sanctions. There are a lot of bills, and the fact that they are not passing is a sign that congressmen do not have a common opinion, but there are simply private initiatives,” Kostin said.
According to him, in the event of harsh sanctions, VTB has an action plan that “does not change, because we don’t see anything new yet.”
He also spoke about the process of de-dollarization of the Russian economy.
“The Central Bank has halved its dollar reserves and is switching to gold - this is the most obvious example. There is progress in the issue of payments by companies, they are, however, no longer moving towards the ruble, but towards the euro, but nevertheless there is a gradual shift away from the dollar,” noted the head of VTB.
