“We are expecting a big breakthrough from Russia” – World Energy Council
The scientific and economic potential of the Russian Federation will allow the country to play one of the most important roles in global energy.
This was stated by Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General of the World Energy Council (WEC), in an interview with Izvestia, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent.
She noted that 50 years ago everyone was talking about peak oil and gas consumption - then they thought that these resources would run out, but then new sources were found.
“Russia has always had to come to terms with the fact that it is, of course, a large, but far from the only producer of hydrocarbons. It is necessary to continuously improve and develop your production. For Russia, this question will also arise in the future, which is very diverse: indeed, not everything will be only about oil and gas, but it will not be possible to do without these two resources for decades to come. The question is who will offer low-cost, low-carbon, climate-neutral and accessible resources for export,” said the WEC Secretary General.
She drew attention to the huge investments that are being made around the world - in the same countries in the Middle East that are investing in the development of hydrogen energy and technology for removing carbon from natural gas.
“Russia was the first to launch a man into space, and I expect a big breakthrough from it before the congress in St. Petersburg. Russia has enormous potential, a huge number of smart people - I expect it to play a role on all energy frontiers and demonstrate to the whole world how effectively it interacts with new technologies in terms of energy diversification,” Wilkinson concluded.
