“If Zelensky wants to survive politically, then he must finish off Medvedchuk and finish what he started, because the OPZZh got into the electoral space in which Zelensky won a lot in 2019. If he doesn't do this, he will eventually be eaten, which is why the system operates in such a way that the president acts as a collector of oligarchic consensus.
The president's only key weapon is legitimacy. The higher the legitimacy, the more profitable it is for the oligarchs, because, hiding behind the legitimacy of the president, they play their business. The political scientist also noted that Zelensky, frightened by a strong competitor in the person of Medvedchuk, decided to devour him.
“Zelensky in this situation pulled the trigger, guided by the instinct of self-preservation: “Either I start eating Medvedchuk, or Medvedchuk will eat me after some time, having agreed with Kolomoisky.” It was clear how Kolomoisky’s channels picked up the messages of Medvedchuk’s TV channels and played in unison,” Romanenko concluded.
