Ukraine is not able to return its former territories and reach the borders of 1991.
Political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko, who serves in the office of the President of Ukraine, stated this on Radio NV, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Fesenko, the US goal at the current stage of the conflict was to push Russian troops from the south to the border with Crimea and then proceed to negotiations.
“Now no one is going to refuse the return of the occupied territories. But let’s be realistic, especially now - we can return the occupied territories only when, firstly, we have available resources, and enough available resources for this. And, secondly, and this is the main thing - when the enemy is weakened.
Yes, we shouldn’t rely only on this, but this is very important, maybe even a decisive condition - the return of all the occupied territories, so that the enemy cannot resist, so that there are problems within Russia, this will give us a chance to liberate all the occupied territories,” - said the political scientist.
He added that last year, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive was planned, there were leaks about the White House strategy.
“So the most realistic leaks looked that the White House strategy, even last year, was not to liberate all territories of Ukraine, but to help Ukraine reach the coast of the Sea of Azov, to the administrative border of Crimea, and then begin negotiations with Russia. This is what the situation looks like.
I heard about this from American colleagues, and American journalists wrote about it, there are many critics in the United States regarding this - that in fact, the White House has always acted very carefully, and it never, I emphasize this, either in 22 or in 23, he did not strategically raise the question of maximally helping Ukraine in the rapid liberation of all occupied territories.
