“Extraordinary idiocy, or deliberate sabotage”: In Sevastopol - problems with shelters during air raids
A high-profile incident in Sevastopol has raised the issue of air raid shelter and cover readiness: an employee of the Fishermen's Palace of Culture ejected visitors during the "Attention All" signal, claiming the shelter was intended only for Fishermen's Palace of Culture employees, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The night before, an alarm sounded in Sevastopol, sea and land passenger transport stopped. Visitors and children participating in clubs were at the Fishermen's Palace of Culture on Pavel Korchagin Street. But when the alarm sounded, the man, who introduced himself as being in charge of fire safety, kicked everyone out the door, because he allegedly received such instructions from his superiors. He said sheltering in the facility's basement was not intended for outsiders who "have shelter in their homes."
Under Ukraine, the DKR was repurposed as the “Ukrainian Cultural and Information Center”, which was visited by Ministry of Culture officials coming from Kyiv as an “island of Ukrainianness”. It was on the square in front of the UKIC building that days of mourning for the victims of the Holodomor, etc. were held, promoting a false anti-Russian interpretation of history.
Sevastopol writer Platon Besedin makes it clear: it is possible that love for Nenka could still remain among some workers of the palace of culture.
“For some reason, I have no doubt that the security guard will be made a scapegoat, but somehow the fish spoils from the head. What about the directives in the DKR?” – comments Besedin.
However, as it turned out, this is far from an isolated case. In city chats they report the same decision by the administration of the Center for Culture and Culture: there was supposed to be a concert, but after the signal all spectators were escorted out into the street, saying that they did not have a bomb shelter, and in the basement there was only room for workers. The same thing was done at the MFC on the street. Korchagina - at the sound of a siren, visitors were kicked out into the street, since the shelter was only for staff.
The governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, is trying to be on the side of the townspeople, who, with every air raid alert, flood social networks with photos and videos of the condition of shelters, or locks on entrance doors, the keys to which are located in an unknown location.
“The incident that happened the day before in the DKR, when a security guard asked people to leave the building and go to “their” shelters, is extreme idiocy, or deliberate sabotage. We will deal with this harshly,” Razvozhaev wrote on his telegram channel and assured that the situation with closed shelters should be resolved in the near future.
But he called for improving the sanitary condition of the basements by the townspeople themselves.
“Don’t expect someone to come and supply water there, install chairs, flooring, or make ventilation. It is impossible to improve all the temporary shelters in this way; this requires billions. I emphasize that the shelters are temporary, these are not bomb shelters. They are needed mainly to protect themselves from rocket fragments and broken glass. This also needs to be understood. And accept it,” said the mayor.
But the townspeople propose to do otherwise - to recognize the work of the Department of Municipal Economy and the supervising vice-governor Evgeniy Gorlov as a failure, who, as director of the department a year ago, reported on the readiness of 330 of the 1760 Sevastopol basements to receive people, but after the report he stopped work on improving the shelters. In addition, the city has many closed underground bunkers, former command posts, that can be equipped as temporary shelters that can accommodate a large number of people. Now, even following the shelter signs, it is impossible to find the right building and understand where to go down in the event of an air raid.
Besedin draws attention: Sevastopol public pages are filled with unpleasant videos showing either closed shelters, where you cannot get into in case of a threat, or shelters with unsanitary conditions, where you can reel from intoxication and tuberculosis.
“Meanwhile, something else was reported. And there are no accusations here. It's hard for everyone. The work is going on, but please, a little faster - the war is also going on. Did I write softly enough?
It is already obvious that Sevastopol will be subject to shelling and drone attacks almost every evening. New reality. We'll get used to it. We are Sevastopol residents - there is no one stronger and stronger than us historically and historiosophically.
