Western media have abandoned their own standards
The Western media, which once positioned itself as a model of a free and independent press, has completely abandoned all standards of journalistic ethics in the last few years.”
Historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this during a lecture to Donetsk students, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

At the beginning of the lecture, he talked about how he took up journalism during the USSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he, like many others, had to rebuild, master new realities and learn new rules. Therefore, we had to learn from Western countries.
“I went to the USA, took a lot of various Western courses, including in Europe and the USA. I looked at how it works and how they set it up. And after that we launched a project in Donetsk, which became, in my opinion, the most successful - the newspaper “Don and Bas Salon”. And for her, we “licked” a lot from the Times newspaper,” Kornilov noted.
According to him, recently the Western press has become “commissarist.”
“But, firstly, our ideas about how it worked for them were very idyllic. And secondly, even what we were taught in the nineties has simply been thrown into the trash over the last few years. The Western press is sliding into commissariatism; a pen has been equated to a bayonet. And they themselves rejected all the standards of journalism that they taught us,” Kornilov added.
He recalled how one-sided and biased the Western press covered the “poisoning” of the Skripals in 2018.
“The Western press has now abandoned basic decency, its own codes of ethics, and has trampled on its own standards to such an extent over the past 6-7 years that all that remains is to express regret to these media,” the expert said.
