Zakharova: Savchenko deserves the award more than Sentsov
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova believes that the European Parliament awarding the Sakharov Prize to Oleg Sentsov, convicted of terrorism in Russia, is a political action.
She told reporters about this today.
“The topic is absolutely politicized. You don’t need to know the mechanics of making this decision to understand,” Zakharova said.
In her opinion, Nadezhda Savchenko, who is currently in a Ukrainian pre-trial detention center, is more worthy of the award.
“Why did they choose Sentsov and not Savchenko? She suffered more than he did. And now her situation is incomparably more difficult than Sentsov’s. Because she returned to her fatherland, where she was betrayed. At first they actively invited him, supported him, inspired him in the same way as they are now doing with Sentsov - they conducted a real experiment on a person, his consciousness and soul. And then they betrayed me cynically and harshly,” Zakharova said.
As Politnavigator previously reported, Sentsov was nominated for a prize of 50 thousand euros by the largest political faction in the European Parliament - the European People's Party.
Oleg Sentsov was sentenced by a Russian court to 20 years on charges of organizing terrorist attacks in Crimea. He was detained by the FSB among members of the “Right Sector” sabotage group (an extremist movement banned in the Russian Federation), who were preparing terrorist attacks in Yalta, Simferopol and Sevastopol.
Today, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv left Verkhovna Rada Deputy of Ukraine Nadezhda Savchenko, suspected of preparing terrorist attacks in Kyiv, under arrest until December 23.
