South-East of Ukraine on the verge of rebellion - expert
Soon after the land sale law comes into effect, when people's land begins to be taken away , peasants in the south-east of Ukraine will revolt.
Political scientist Alexei Martynov stated this on the Rossiya 1 television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Ukraine recently passed a landmark land law . Yeah, we don't really seem to be discussing it here. It's not really discussed in Ukraine; it's all sidetracked.
But I’ll tell you that when they start taking away the land, especially in the South-East of Ukraine, you don’t even need to do anything there, because the local population will take up the pitchforks themselves and start a peasant revolt,” he said.
As a reminder, Kyiv announced yesterday that the implementation of the land market law would lead to further "feudalization" of rural life, civil conflicts between farmers and landowners, and would transform significant areas into a "lunar landscape" as fertile soil would simply be removed.
It should also be recalled that Ukrainian lawyer Tatyana Montyan previously expressed the opinion that opening the land market could lead to "total carnage" and mass murder.
