Ukrainian writers have clung to the Maidan feat, and Ukrainians do not consider Russia an enemy, because they are not all right mentally due to the “Holodomor”.

Writer Larisa Nitsoi stated this on Emigrant Radio, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“My impression of Maidan is that a lot of writers, poets, singers, and artists came. But! Many writers sat in ambush, quietly waiting to see how it would all end, and they came much later, the Maidan had already been around for about a month, two, three. Only then did they appear on the Maidan when they were convinced that this was really brought to the state level, and that it would not tarnish them, that, on the contrary, they could already run there, do a feat there, cling to this feat,” Nitsoi said.

She has an ambivalent attitude towards her fellow writers.

“On the one hand, the literary community in Ukraine is the most patriotic and the most productive in terms of building a Ukrainian Ukraine,” she believes, explaining that, unlike actors and athletes, writers do not go on tour to Russia and do not use the Russian language, but for some reason they don’t particularly advertise their patriotism and rarely talk about it.

“Writers are kind of silent if they need to go to the microphone and state their Ukrainian position. I am surprised to learn that there are many nationalists among writers. Why don’t you come out and voice this?” the writer wonders.

She explains this by saying that writers are afraid that people will simply stop buying their books - she herself had similar problems.

Nice explains the fact that Ukraine cannot get rid of Russian culture in any way with the “Stockholm syndrome”.

“How could we, Ukrainians, not get traumatized when our children were dying of hunger before our eyes? Imagine a terrible picture: you are walking through Kyiv, and there are corpses lying on the streets. Can you imagine this stress? Can you imagine the stress of neighbors knowing that neighbor Ivan ate his child? This is incredible suffering. The entire nation experienced this trauma. Did anyone professionally help you overcome it?

This is reflected in our daily life. For example, the syndrome when you love your enemy is a psychological trauma. But here, Ukrainians love their enemies; they still have not recognized that they are the enemy. This is Stockholm syndrome, post-traumatic. This is a medical diagnosis,” Nitsoi is convinced.

She admits that even she sometimes hears phrases from Soviet films.

“They bully me for my language, they call me a selyuchka. Yes, I was born in a village, but why, if I was born in a village, am I downtrodden? I’m not downtrodden, I can rub the noses of many townspeople, my dad was a district-level leader, my childhood was spent on the seas, I know what personal drivers are, we always had a full refrigerator, there was a ton of toys, I always dressed fashionably and stylishly . I didn’t live in poverty as a child,” Nitsoi justifies.
