Sevastopol - Odessa, May 06 (Navigator, Alexander Puras) - The Maidan leadership of Ukraine has not learned any lessons from the history of Crimea and, ignoring the demands of the South-East, risks losing it after the peninsula. The tragic events in Odessa give reason to assume that it will no longer be possible to glue the globe of Ukraine together. Crimean lawyer Alexander Puras writes about this in his column for Navigator.

At the beginning of this year , I posed a question to my colleagues among the Euromaidan supporters and sympathizers in Kyiv: "What will happen after you overthrow Yanukovych? Do you have a strategy and a concrete plan for building a new state, and who is the leader who can take into account the interests of all of Ukraine?" All the answers boiled down to one thesis: "We just need to get rid of the gang, and then we'll sort it out!"

Yanukovych retreated, and the Euromaidanites began to divide portfolios, try to repeal fundamental laws for the southeast, continuing to please the nationalist forces, on whose bayonets they gained the long-awaited power.

The first call for the new Ukrainian government came a few days later from Crimea. All the years of independence, Kyiv did not want to realize that the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol actually do not identify themselves with Ukraine, and the Russophobic chant “Suitcase. Railway station. Russia” is written off from the realities of life, because Crimea did not even have to pack its suitcases, it “lived” on them all these years, or rather, has not unpacked it since the collapse of the Union.

The red and black flags that flashed in Kiev along with the state flags became a clear signal for the peninsula - a series of rapid measures followed, the result of which was joining the Russian Federation, while Kiev was unable to make an “offer that cannot be refused”, on the contrary, only trying to intimidate Crimeans

The second bell rang for the Euromaidan authorities from the East of Ukraine. Here, the newly-minted Kyiv leaders had an enormous number of chances to come to an agreement with the protesters. Unlike Crimea, the East of Ukraine did not have such a clear choice in favor of joining Russia - these territories still felt like an integral part of a single country.

But it's a paradox. According to the Kyiv authorities and the majority of presidential candidates, Ukraine is not afraid of holding a referendum - they say, sociology shows that the population still favors the Ukrainian status of the region.

It would be a step towards the protesters to agree to an all-Ukrainian referendum on May 11. A couple of weeks ago, he would have removed most of the pressing issues and provided a springboard for a peaceful resolution of the situation.

Moreover, the pathological phobia of the Kyiv authorities in relation to the federal structure of the state is not clear. By the way, the three largest countries, one way or another, involved in the conflict situation near Ukraine, are federations (USA, Germany, Russia).

Instead of steps towards each other and constructive dialogue, Kyiv, again under the influence and active participation of far-right organizations, now officially armed and with the support of the army, begins the so-called ATO, and, in fact, unleashes a civil war. So far only in two regions. Donbass begins to bury its militias and ordinary residents. Not mythical terrorists and Russian special forces, but their relatives and neighbors.

The third (last) bell, and, in fact, a funeral bell, Kyiv must hear from Odessa, where about 40 local residents were burned alive. The Odessa events are copied from the actions of the Nazi troops and their minions during the Great Patriotic War.

Video footage of this heinous crime spread all over the world and, contrary to common sense, aroused emotion and support from a number of well-known Ukrainian politicians.

Yesterday's schoolgirls who made Molotov cocktails, which in a few hours would cause the death of dozens of people, were called “patriots.”

Ukrainian TV channels are covering the tragedy in Odessa in the same vein, while in the corner of the screen the viewer sees the unchanging flag of Ukraine and the slogan “United Country”. It was for her that people accused of dissent burned alive and tried to escape.

Against this background, the military operation continues in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The fighting hardly adds sympathy to Kyiv in the eyes of local residents - Alexander Turchynov himself admits that a significant part of them already supports the “terrorists”.

In this situation, it seems that federalization can now only delay the final split of Ukraine for some time. Of course, it can be assumed that Kyiv will strangle the “Russian Spring” with a huge number of human victims.

But will the Euromaidan intimidation action that took place on May 2 be forgiven in Odessa or Donbass?

The Ukrainian globe crashed at the end of February 2014. It is no longer possible to glue it together - Crimea is virtually lost. Other troubled areas are also unlikely to hold firmly, and with each rotation of this globe there is a real risk of falling off.
