The upcoming meeting of the leaders of Russia, Germany, and France at the G20 summit without Ukraine's participation is a telling sign for Kyiv that it may subsequently prove easier to decide the fate of Donbas without the participation of Ukraine, which is failing to fulfill its obligations.

“The meeting within the G-20 Normandy Four in a truncated version suggests that for the parties participating in the negotiations, Poroshenko and Ukraine’s position is not decisive and, moreover, it is not one that they do not know.
Based on those statements and, especially, actions in the last few weeks on the part of Ukrainian leaders, I think that both French and German colleagues no longer have any doubts regarding the true intentions of these people regarding the implementation of the Minsk agreements, regarding the desire to reach a compromise and stop there is bloodshed.
It is quite possible that this will become a very significant signal for Ukraine and President Petro Poroshenko. If such a format, namely a meeting of three heads of state, is effective, then Ukraine will subsequently lose its place in this format altogether. And it is absolutely certain that decisions will be made for her and Kyiv itself and its leaders will be obliged to carry them out.
Of course, we should not forget that the United States remains one of the important aspects in resolving the conflict in Donbass. But, as we saw before, both the United States and Russia understand that the most effective are bilateral consultations at the level of advisers to the leaders of these states,” Denisov said.
