Washington and Moscow will decide the fate of Ukraine without the participation of Kyiv – Klimkin
The United States will not join the Normandy Format, but the topic of Ukraine will be discussed by the United States in direct dialogue with Russia. At the same time, there is a big risk that Ukraine itself will not be involved in this process.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin stated this on the ATR television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“They will talk, conditionally, informally, under the table. Will we be able to talk about this solitaire game? I can say that most likely we won’t. That is, this is definitely not beneficial for Putin - but for what? It is beneficial for him to negotiate behind our backs and over our heads, one hundred percent. And then try to put it on our heads. He has an empire in his head, Novorossiya, but it still hasn’t gone anywhere.
What benefits the States? The question is - will they, in today's reality, involve us in these negotiations regarding our issues? There will probably be consultation in some way. But will they involve us in conversations? Let me remind you - for a few days, the “Normandy format”, all sorts of comments begin and everyone says: “The Germans and the French came up with a plan.” In general, can you imagine that the Germans and French came up with a plan for us? We don't know anything about this.
First the comments: “We don’t know,” then “We know,” then: “We don’t know the details,” then: “We heard something,” then “They handed it over to Russia.” Peskov says: “There is no plan.” This is real surrealism. Can you imagine if the States get involved?
That’s when my colleagues ask me, they say: “Paul, tell me, maybe the Americans should join the Normandy format?” I say, who pulled this on your head? Really, for what? The Germans and French do not need this, since this is their format in which they rule something. Putin doesn’t need it at all, especially after these words and all this. Who needs this, Americans?
Why should the Americans bind themselves to the Normandy format? They will speak directly to Russia... But it is very important that we are present there, so that every step is coordinated with us. In fact, besides all the escalations and destabilizations that Putin will do, there is a real threat that we will not be in this unofficial negotiation process. And this is a very big risk,” Klimkin suffers.
