This was the opinion at the debate “Dialogue in War Conditions?” held at the University of Kiev-Mohyla Academy. said Mikhail Gorbal, an immigrant from Makeyevka, deputy chairman of the public organization “Develop Local Democracy”.
He made it clear that he had a negative attitude towards the visit of Kyiv television journalist Andrei Kulikov to Donetsk and his call for dialogue between the parties to the conflict.
“A journalist in his activities should not cause damage to his state, his nation and his people,” the social activist emphasized.
At the same time, he admitted that there are even members of his family on the other side of the front, adding that “many of them are sincere separatists.”
“Dialogue with them is possible,” Gorbal believes. – Dialogue with structures is impossible if we recognize them as terrorists and foreign interventionists. Of course, there will be negotiations regarding hostages and humanitarian actions, but not by journalists for PR, but by serious professionals... No one denies that in the Wehrmacht, SS and even in the Waffen-SS there were many worthy, intelligent, wonderful people who, after the war, became writers, and chancellors. But do you think it would have been worth it for a journalist to conduct a dialogue in September 41 or June 43 with German troops?”
