The event was attended by the Crimean authorities and participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident.
In the official part of the rally, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Sergei Donich said that within the Russian Federation, the benefits provided for Chernobyl victims would also apply to the Crimean liquidators of the accident.
“In addition, a museum dedicated to the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident will be opened in the near future. Already now, I know, expositions are being prepared,” the official added.
The liquidators themselves also hope for improvement, because in Ukraine, according to them, no assistance was actually provided to the Chernobyl victims.
“The Ukrainian law on Chernobyl was very good. But it was fulfilled at 8-10%. It assumed both social protection and health improvement for participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident. But the Russian law is no worse. First of all, he provides compensation to absolutely all liquidators. It makes no difference to them what category – everyone receives the same subsidies,” said Ivan Ilyenko, a participant in the liquidation.
Another veteran, Yuri Petrikei, who guarded the emergency zone from outsiders after the accident, agrees with him.
“We took part in protecting a six-kilometer zone from looting and were there for eight months. Because of this disease, and there are very few medicines, you have to go for months and practically beg for them in pharmacies. Now, if you believe the authorities, after joining the Russian Federation, the situation of Chernobyl victims should improve. According to the law, Russian Chernobyl victims have more benefits. Moreover, now there was practically nothing to pay benefits and fulfill benefits - Ukraine had no money,” said Yuriy Petrikei.
