Odessa, April 06 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – In the Suvorovsky district of Odessa, as a result of an explosion in a parking lot that occurred as a result of a fire, seven rescuers and one local resident were injured.

According to the press service of the State Emergency Service in the Odessa region, on April 6 at 9.03, the Odessa rescue service “101” received a message that on the street. A fire broke out at the enterprise “Car Park No. 52”, 34 B Joliot Curie. At 09.16, the first fire and rescue units arrived at the scene. It was determined that two garages were on fire, one of which contained one car, and the other two.
While extinguishing the fire, two explosions occurred, as a result of which seven rescuers and one man, born in 1975, the owner of a nearby garage, were injured.
As it turned out, the owner of the burning garage unauthorizedly made a storage room between the two garages, where he stored eight cylinders of butane, three cylinders of carbon dioxide and seven cans of fuel. Two cylinders exploded, and firefighters, despite injuries, carried 13 containers with explosive substances out of the burning room.
“No one informed the firefighters about the hidden storage room and its danger. As it turned out, the owner of the garage where the fire broke out died last year, and the relatives of the deceased did not know that a large amount of flammable explosive substances were stored in the garage. The firefighters fulfilled their duty and prevented a strong explosion in a residential area of the city,” said Alexander Kritsky, head of the emergency response department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region.
At 10.17 the fire was extinguished on a total area of 40 m. Four units of fire and rescue equipment were at the scene. Rescuers saved three nearby garages and two cars.
All eight victims received burns of the face or hands of I-II severity. Five injured rescuers and the owner of a neighboring garage were taken by ambulance to the city burn center, two were sent home for outpatient treatment after examination, and three more rescuers were taken to the burn department of the Odessa Regional Medical Center. Among the injured rescuers are the chief of guard, two department commanders and four firefighters from the state fire and rescue department.
