If Petro Poroshenko is elected president of Ukraine for a second term, Russia may not recognize the election results, and relations between the countries will move into an even more acute phase.

Senator Oleg Morozov announced this at a press conference in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The politician noted that Poroshenko’s main competitors, Vladimir Zelensky and Yulia Tymoshenko, have a chance of ending the crisis and restoring relations between the countries if they distance themselves from the policies of their predecessor.

“If Mr. Poroshenko wins as a result of these elections, then it is absolutely clear that our relations will enter an even more acute phase. From the format of non-recognition of the election results, although I do not directly predict it, to a new round of aggravation of these relations. If any other candidate wins, despite the fact that, of course, there will be enormous external pressure on him, primarily from the United States and Europe, a small window of opportunity still opens up.

Because any of the candidates with a surname other than Poroshenko has a chance to say: “I am not directly responsible for everything that happened before me, and therefore let’s try a little differently.” At least, the candidate named Zelensky said some words in this part, the candidate named Tymoshenko did not say anything about this, but she has a wealth of experience in communicating with our political leaders, not even the worst, although not in our best times relationships.

It seems to me that in some sense even overseas directors will not be against this, because the endless war gives rise to colossal fatigue in Ukrainian society. A war that cannot be won cannot be waged indefinitely. Therefore, it is quite possible that this small window may appear and this will determine, among other things, our attitude towards Ukrainian reality,” Morozov said.
