In Crimea they told how they tried to reason with Chubarov in 2014
The Crimean Tatar Mejlis, now banned in the Russian Federation, cooperated for some time in February 2014 to counteract the bloodshed in Crimea. The position of the nationalists changed later, when peace in Crimea ceased to be part of their political interests.
This was stated by Sergey Tarasov, a deputy of the State Council of Crimea and chairman of the United Crimean Union of Veterans of Afghanistan and Other Local Wars, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In order to maintain public tranquility and peace in Crimea, we have taken all measures to, on our part, take part as actively as possible in maintaining public order in the Republic of Crimea. Foot groups and automobile groups were created to prevent bloodshed in Crimea on an interethnic and interethnic basis. And, of course, we followed the Maidan in Kiev and received information from there that all the speakers, starting from Tyagnibok, ending with Poroshenko and Klitschko, and everyone else who now rules in fascist Ukraine, did not hide their intentions to come to Crimea and destroy Everything here is Russian-language,” he noted.
On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, when registration for the people's militia was taking place on the square in front of the Crimean parliament, it became clear that Crimea would no longer go to Ukraine and would not allow nationalists onto its territory. According to Tarasov, at that time there was organized interaction with the Crimean Tatar Mejlis (now a banned organization in the Russian Federation) to prevent conflicts on interethnic grounds.
“At that time, it was still possible to talk with them, because we had people in the unit who had good contacts with the leaders of the Crimean Tatar nationalists. Among our Afghans there are guys from among the Crimean Tatars, at that time it was still possible to talk, and Shuvalov and I even visited the residence of the Majlis, Chubarov received us. Surprisingly, we came out of there alive, and we had lists of public opinion leaders of the Crimean Tatars with us. If there were disputes, squabbles, or tensions escalating somewhere, we immediately went there and localized such moments. That is, all this was by agreement.
Then all this lost its power and meaning, because it was clear that they were categorically opposed to all joint movements towards peace in Crimea. Then all these contacts stopped. Nevertheless, for some period we managed to keep the situation under control,” the deputy emphasized.
According to him, before the formation of the people’s militia, there were many different groups and factions that, on their own and from their own point of view, tried to keep the situation under control.
“And on February 23, when the Crimean militia was formed, all these groups and small groups, movements all united under the leadership of Sergei Aksenov, at that time the head of Russian Unity.
The direct leadership of our small and large strategic operations was carried out by Mikhail Sheremet, where we should blockade, where we should go out - conduct demonstration activities. And after this, the main backbone of the people’s militia, active citizens of Crimea, who strived for peace, so that Crimea would be sovereign and independent, was indeed already determined,” Tarasov concluded.
