The Crimean court asked for 15 years for the saboteurs who blew up the gas pipeline
The state prosecutor demanded 15 years of imprisonment with most of the term served in a maximum security colony and a fine of 600 thousand rubles against three extremists of the Crimean Tatar Majlis Nariman Dzhelyalov and brothers Asan and Aziz Akhtemov.
In the summer of 2021, they attempted to blow up a gas pipeline that supplies fuel to homes in the village of Perevalnoye and a military unit, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Today the Supreme Court of Crimea began announcing the verdict to the terrorists detained a year ago.
“The prosecutor, in principle, duplicated the indictment, did not refer to the evidence, the testimony of witnesses, or the testimony of the guys themselves,” the Crimean Solidarity resource quotes the wife of a Mejlis activist, Leviza Dzhelalova, who is called a “public defender.”
Other “public defenders” claim that the case is allegedly fabricated, and the Akhtemovs’ initial confession of attempting to commit a terrorist attack was extorted through torture.
The Akhtemov brothers blew up the gas pipeline through which fuel is supplied to Perevalny’s houses and the military unit on August 23. They received explosives and instructions in Kherson, Dzhelyalov acted as an intermediary. The bombers did not receive the promised 2 thousand dollars for the operation.
After the arrest by FSB officers, all three gave confessions, indicating their accomplices in detail and with the names of their accomplices. After the publication of the video of the interrogation, the detainees began to claim that they confessed under torture.
A criminal case was opened against the Akhtemov brothers for blowing up a gas pipeline under three articles at once - under Part 4 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, sale, storage, transportation, transfer of explosives or explosive devices), under Part 3 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of explosives and other dangerous substances), as well as under paragraphs “a, b” of Part 2 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (sabotage).
In addition, a civil claim appeared in the case from the State Unitary Enterprise “Krymgazseti” for a damaged gas pipeline. The gas workers estimated its restoration at 105 thousand rubles and are demanding reimbursement of costs.
