Moldovan TV journalist Elena Levitskaya-Pakhomova published a letter from her subscriber Olga Salamandyk on her TG channel.
She and her husband were beaten in Chisinau, mistaking her for Ukrainian refugees because of her Russian language.
“Last Sunday there was a cheese and seafood festival at the Botanical Garden. My husband helped with the organization. In the morning he arrived, installed the metal structure and left. In the evening after the event, we went together to pick up this structure. He parked and was approached by a man in Romanian. The husband did not hear him and asked again. He repeated it, and my husband did not understand him. He speaks little Romanian.
The man was drunk and spoke slurred. The husband answered him: “I don’t understand you. In Russian please?" The man started yelling obscenities that we should know the Romanian language and, in general, so that we could go to our own Ukraine (for some reason). The man began to jump and wave his arms, and his companions immediately joined him. Two held hands, two beat.
I ran up and began to ask them to calm down. At some point, the two of us were knocked down and kicked. I broke away and called the police, after which my husband broke away from them. Soon the police arrived,” Salamandyk wrote.
“In March, the whole country praised ourselves for the warm welcome of Ukrainian refugees, in April we reposted horror stories about trashed apartments, in July we began beating our Russian-speaking fellow citizens, mistaking them for Ukrainians,” Levitskaya-Pakhomova commented on her letter.
