In Kyiv they praise Kernes: “Thanks to him, Novorossiya is smaller than it could be”
The betrayal of the Russian Spring in 2014 by the recently deceased mayor of Kharkov, Gennady Kernes, had a tremendous impact on the course of those events.
Ukrainian political strategist Andrei Zolotarev stated this on the InterVizor YouTube channel, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Kharkov is the first capital, it is a strategically important city for the country. In many ways, the fact that Kernes remained on the side of Ukraine predetermined that we lost only part of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, while Novorossiya could have turned out to have completely different borders. We won’t go into the details of how it all happened, but we must give Kernes his due.
This is an exception to the rules of Ukrainian politics, a man who was elected with a rather low result, about 30 percent, but, nevertheless, even while in the Charité clinic, received more than 60 percent of the votes of the townspeople. In my memory, only the mayor of Zaporozhye, Polyak, people came to say goodbye to their mayor so crowdedly and really not under pressure,” the expert said.
“Indeed, Kharkov has more metropolitan character than Kiev, which is turning into a wretched passing-through village under the leadership of our comprehensively talented Zlatoust mayor. And you have to live your life in such a way that so many people come to say goodbye to you. Yes, you can say that these are “scoops”, “gizzards”, but look at Kharkov and compare with any other city,” Zolotarev added.
