The scenario of “reintegration” of Donbass, which the Ukrainian authorities insist on, is in fact a project for the assimilation of the inhabitants of the region.

Political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the air of the Black Mirror talk show.
According to him, the real reintegration of Donbass into Ukraine can only happen if the region is endowed with special status and rights.
“We are de-occupying, troops are coming in, we are returning everything Ukrainian there - this is assimilation, not reintegration. Reintegration occurs with a special status. When they have some special rights - in language, relatively speaking, in foreign economic activity, that is, what is written in the law on the special procedure for local self-government. This could be autonomy, federalization, or a regional region, as in Spain's Catalonia. In Italy there are five autonomous regions, in France, a unitary country, Corsica is an autonomous island,” Karasev said.
