The State Duma proposed giving students a 90% discount on train tickets
Russian Railways should give students a 90% discount on train tickets that are not in demand. Deputy Vasily Vlasov stated this today from the rostrum of the Russian parliament.

“While giving a lecture at one of the Moscow universities, I decided to conduct a survey of students and found out that more than 90% of students have been to less than 5 regions of Russia in their lives. This is monstrous. Our students do not know the cities and regions of the Russian Federation. Therefore, we propose to reduce the fare for students on long-distance trains by 90% in case of unsold tickets,” Vlasov said.
The deputy claims that many directions are simply empty.
“You go to Smolensk on the Lastochka and see that half the seats are empty. Why not let young people buy these tickets not for 3 thousand but for 300 rubles. What's the point? The carriage is moving, the conductor receives her salary. You just have empty space,” Vlasov said.
