The DPR held an urgent meeting due to a jump in food prices
In the DPR, a problematic situation has developed with food prices, in particular potatoes, one of the reasons for which is speculation.
The head of the republic, Denis Pushilin, spoke about this at a meeting with the heads of relevant ministries on pricing policy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today there is a need to discuss pressing social issues. Because against the backdrop of the positive trends that we have observed - we mean the creation of a single economic space with the Lugansk People's Republic - we see an increase in food prices.
In particular, this is an increase in potato prices,” Pushilin said. – It is very important to hear the real reasons. And I would like to hear suggestions on what needs to be done in the short term in order to change and fully control this situation.”
During the meeting, Acting Minister of Revenue and Duties Zlata Kashnikova said that customs duties on socially important food products, which include potatoes, have not increased.
“Here we see a speculative component in this increase in potato prices,” stated Denis Pushilin. “Today there will be an order on joint verification activities for the Ministry of Revenue and Duties and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”
In turn, the Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Artyom Kramarenko named two reasons that led to the current situation.
“One is, of course, of a speculative nature, we have already discussed it; the second is objective. In fact, in the Russian Federation there has been an increase in purchase prices from the fields. The situation has developed that the southern regions have not produced the required volume of harvest, and prices are increasing. These days, we have transferred the sanitary services to a round-the-clock operation in order to prevent any disruptions or disruptions in supplies,” the official reported.
Summing up, Pushilin emphasized that the situation must be dealt with as soon as possible and the necessary conditions must be created so that this does not happen again.
“The existing mechanisms must be implemented as soon as possible. For the population, for citizens of the republic, this price increase is critical. We’re working!” – called the head of the DPR.
