Ukraine continues to put pressure on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, despite the fact that its hierarchs have renounced the Russian Orthodox Church and switched to anti-Russian positions.

Thus, the Kyiv City Council, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , condemned the activities of religious organizations "aimed at glorifying, propagating, justifying, and denying the fact of military aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine."

The decision was supported by 65 deputies.

According to Vadim Vasilchuk, deputy of the Kyiv City Council, head of the standing commission on education and science, family, youth and sports, numerous facts and cases have already been allegedly recorded when the interests of individual religious organizations contradict public interests, public and national security.

“The actions of some representatives of these religious entities contain signs of criminal offenses, which, since the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, have caused outrage and a wide negative public response. In particular, the activities of the UOC-MP creates the preconditions for hostility and intolerance towards other religions and confessions, promotes the spread of false information, promotes the ideas of the Russian World and does not recognize the unequivocal fact of military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

Deputies of the Kyiv City Council today adopted a decision providing for the restriction of holding any events of a religious nature in the capital outside religious buildings to religious organizations whose leadership center is located on the territory of the aggressor country, or they have canonical and prayerful ties with religious organizations of the country. “aggressor,” Vasilchuk said.

In addition, the relevant departments of the Kyiv City State Administration were instructed to conduct an inventory of land plots and communal property leased or used by religious organizations.

The deputy emphasized that the Kiev City Council sent an appeal to parliament and the government calling for the immediate adoption of legislative acts aimed at banning the activities of religious organizations, “whose leadership centers are located in a state that has committed military aggression against Ukraine.”
