Everything has fallen: Ukraine will not be able to handle hydrogen and “green” energy – Zemlyansky
In addition to the reduction in the transit of Russian gas through the GTS, a problem for Ukraine is the drop in gas consumption within the country after 2013.
This was stated on the air of the Politvera channel by Valentin Zemlyansky, an analyst for the alternative expert government, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The storage units are pumping, although I don’t understand at what price. But now the problem is not even in storage, but in the fact that there are no previous volumes of consumption. There is no industry that “ate up” a lot; the (consumption of) the population fell from 17 to 8 billion (cubic meters per year) in 8 years. Industry fell in the same way, almost by half, although 2013 was not the most positive year for Ukrainian business.
That is, also (industrial consumption) in the region of 10-18 (billion cubic meters per year), plus heat and utilities and public sector employees, it turns out to be about 25-27 (billion cubic meters per year). The total balance for last year was 32 billion cubic meters,” the analyst said.
In his opinion, Ukraine should not have much hope for the investments promised by the United States and Germany in “green” energy, i.e. in the production and transportation of hydrogen.
“We can try, but what to invest in is not entirely clear yet. Hydrogen is produced from methane. If it is produced from fresh water, then it is not yet clear what is “greener” – hydrogen or water, which is a resource. The transportation issue has not been resolved. There is a question of the alloy from which the pipes should be made.
And, again, economic feasibility. So far, even adherents of hydrogen energy are inclined to believe that if hydrogen is produced from water by electrolysis, then it would be more expedient to locate the plant closer to the consumer,” concluded Valentin Zemlyansky.
