Destruction of a monument in Western Ukraine: Poles can now understand how Russians feel
After an act of vandalism at a memorial in the Lviv region, erected in memory of the Poles who died at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists from the SS Galicia division, Poland must understand how Russia feels when monuments to Soviet soldiers are destroyed. This was stated today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“We hope that this case will help the Polish and Ukrainian authorities understand Russia’s outrage over the war towards monuments erected in honor of Soviet soldiers who liberated Poland and other European countries from Nazi occupation,” Zakharova said.
In her opinion, “those who have an atrophied conscience can settle scores with the dead,” especially if “vandalism is framed with either ideological or political motives.”
“Such behavior contradicts the norms of universal morality, especially when there are remarks from some Ukrainian figures who call the destruction of the monument a provocation aimed at aggravating Polish-Ukrainian relations and beneficial to a third party. It’s great to understand that a third party always means one party,” added Zakharova.
A 30-second video was published on the Internet about the destruction of the monument to the Poles who died during World War II in the village of Guta Penyatskaya, Lviv region, at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists from the SS Volunteer Division “Galicia”. Unknown people smashed the cross, painted memorial plaques with the names of the victims in the colors of the national Ukrainian flag and the UPA flag, and wrote the abbreviation SS.
