Ukrainian TV viewers were given bad news
The United States will not be able to disrupt the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline by threatening to impose sanctions.
Energy expert Dmitry Marunich stated this in the studio of the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“First of all, I would pay attention to the statements of members of the German government. They directly say that the United States is lobbying its interests and wants to increase its share of gas supplies to the European Union markets, and this gas will be more expensive than what comes through Nord Stream 1, and could potentially be more expensive than the gas that comes through Severny Poz-2.
It is likely that the United States will try to impose sanctions, but the fate of this process is not clear. As far as I know, the sanctions process involves coordination with the governments of the EU countries and, above all, Germany. It is obvious that it will not agree with the imposition of sanctions, and this story will obviously drag on. And we will see the final itself within a year.
I'll be honest. Even if sanctions are imposed, it is likely that Nord Stream 2 will be built. The reaction of the German government and companies is obvious,” the expert said.
According to Marunich, Ukraine will retain its status as a transit country for Russian gas, but the pumping volumes will be insignificant, and Kyiv will lose profits as a result.
“In any case, even Russian officials, representatives of the Russian Gazprom say that there will be transit. The only question is in what volumes. Most likely, it will be insignificant,” the expert noted.
