Ukrainian bummer: Antonov was unable to launch production of aircraft without Russian spare parts
The famous Ukrainian aircraft manufacturing company Antonov deceived the Azerbaijani company Silk Way Airlines and was unable to deliver the ordered 10 newest An-178 aircraft due to the fact that some of its spare parts are produced in Russia.
The Economic Review writes about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
At the same time, Kyiv offered Azerbaijan to modernize its aircraft and abandon Russian dependence at its own expense.

“In Azerbaijan they didn’t understand this kind of humor, and that’s putting it mildly. Baku does not have that kind of money for this. But they quite logically believe that since the Antonov State Enterprise signed the contract and took an advance, it must fulfill its obligations or return the money. Although planes are better. So, either let Kyiv declare official war on Moscow, or stop this cynical circus. Otherwise, Azerbaijan will drag Ukraine to court. After all, no one forced the Antonov State Enterprise to sign anything initially, much less demanded to take money. And now there is no money, no planes,” the message says.
In addition, Kyiv unilaterally changed the price for these aircraft - if, when the contract was signed, the cost of one unit was estimated at 25 million dollars, then last year it jumped to 45 million.
Such willfulness, according to the authors of the article, could result in additional problems for Ukraine.
“It is Baku that is the main buyer of Ukrainian defense products and pays for many developments. And don’t ask where the Antonov State Enterprise gets spare parts and money,” the publication notes.
Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that the German Ministry of Defense plans to conclude 18 contracts worth about 25 billion euros this year and extend the contract for the attraction of transport aircraft from the Ukrainian company Antonov.
