“Russian culture is part of the Russian state military-totalitarian machine. It is the bearers of the “great Russian culture” who kill, rape, rob Ukrainian civilians, hit maternity hospitals, hospitals, residential buildings with rockets and suicide bombers, destroy cultural monuments and burn Ukrainian books in the occupied territories,” the minister asserts.

He quotes the words of the director of the Hermitage, Mikhail Piotrovsky, who stated that “Tchaikovsky still cannot be “cancelled.”

“Yes, Tchaikovsky may not be cancelled, but it is necessary to pause the performance of Tchaikovsky as a symbol of Russian culture. All Ukrainian theaters refused to perform Tchaikovsky during the war. We encourage our foreign colleagues to do the same.

Unfortunately, only a few leading theaters in the world were able to abandon Russian classics. Today, even those who previously refused to perform Russian music and collaborate with Russian artists who support the war are once again resuming cooperation with them.

Russian classics have again appeared on the posters of La Scala, for example, and performances by the “faithful soldier” of Putin’s army of culture, Anna Netrebko, are scheduled. And the Milan Opera House, which starts its new season on December 7, plans to start with Mussorgsky’s Russian opera “Boris Godunov,” the author is indignant.

According to him, in response to the appeal, La Scala director Dominique Meyer said that he was not hunting witches and did not support the abolition of Russian works.

“It’s a pity that cultural figures of this level in Europe do not understand that such statements and actions look like dancing on people’s bones. And it’s a pity that art managers deliberately limit themselves in choice, in getting to know brilliant new or old masterpieces, carefully shifted, hidden or outright stolen by “big culture.”

Artificial “Nutcracker” marathons everywhere in the world drive people into sheer monotony,” the minister believes.
