The statement by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin that labor migrants from Ukraine are “saving the Polish economy” confirms the fact that a significant part of Ukraine’s working-age population has already left the country to work.

Political analyst and director of the international and domestic policy program at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, Yuriy Romanenko, announced this on his YouTube channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“What goal are we achieving by declaring that Ukrainians in Poland are not refugees, but economic migrants who benefit Poland and save the Polish economy? It looks like Ukraine is a powerful power and it can send a couple of million of its emigrants to Poland in order to save the dying Polish economy from something there. But in fact, the opposite is true - from the Ukrainian economy, which has suffered very seriously over the past 26 years, where it is impossible to create jobs, we see a very large flight of labor.

According to our calculations, about 8 million people out of 18 million fled. That is, about 35-40%, no one knows for sure because we have not yet conducted a census; the last one was conducted in 2001. We don’t know how much of the population is employed where - there is a “gray” economy, there is a “white” economy. That is, the state really doesn’t control anything, it doesn’t understand well what’s going on, and Klimkin’s statement clearly fits into this logic,” Romanenko said.
