This was stated by the participants of the round table on the topic: “Cauldron” for civilians? How to organize an effective evacuation” in the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights.
Thus, according to Sergei Kosyuk, a volunteer at the Let’s Save Ukraine Mutual Assistance Center, corruption is rampant at checkpoints near the occupied regions.
He also named the main problems in the evacuation process.
“The first problem is that the border guards who stand at the checkpoints do not understand what is happening. Secondly, when hostilities begin, they start shooting, they must have some kind of authority on the spot to solve the problem. And third is the problem of corruption. It’s no longer a secret that at checkpoints in order to legally transport some kind of cargo, especially if we are talking about products, even humanitarian aid, this issue is quickly resolved for 500-600 hryvnia,” Kosyuk said.
In addition, Yulia Galagan, coordinator of the Donbass SOS project, reported corruption in obtaining exit and entry passes to uncontrolled territories.
“It’s almost impossible to get a pass quickly due to the large number of documents and a complicated bureaucratic process, but for money you can get it very quickly,” Galagan shared her experience, based on the stories of people who call the hotline.
