Ukrainians face competition even for a miserable existence
While Ukrainian officials and politicians talk about their “achievements,” the level of unemployment and poverty in the country is growing catastrophically.
This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“From March to April 2020 in Ukraine, the number of available vacancies decreased five times – from 320 thousand to 64 thousand. And the average salary for all offered vacancies of the State Employment Service of Ukraine was 6.645 UAH.

At the same time, according to the State Employment Service, there are currently about 54 thousand vacancies registered there. This is one third less than as of the same date in 2019, according to the State Employment Service. On average, last week about 7 thousand citizens per day received unemployed status. There are already more than 400 thousand officially registered unemployed in Ukraine. And, therefore, the vacancy deficit is currently about -346 thousand,” the report says.

The Institute emphasized that the shortage of vacancies in the country is increasing, as is the level of competition.
“As of January – March 2020, according to the website of the State Employment Service, the number of registered unemployed in the country amounted to 508.4 thousand people with 320.7 thousand vacancies. The shortage of vacancies accordingly amounted to -187.7 thousand.
As of April 1, 2020, the number of unemployed people was 349 thousand people with 64 thousand vacancies. The shortage of vacancies accordingly amounted to -285 thousand.
Over the past three months, the shortage of vacancies in Ukraine has increased by 84%. And since the beginning of April by 21% and now it is about -346 thousand.
At the same time, according to the report, the average salary offered for vacancies in Ukraine is only 6.645 UAH,” the press service added.

The message also noted that due to the coronavirus pandemic and the global economic crisis, the situation is rapidly getting worse - millions of Ukrainians are returning from abroad while the number of available vacancies is rapidly falling.
“As we have seen, there are few official vacancies in Ukraine, and they are low-paid. Unfortunately, at present the state is able to offer its population only a standard of living, which, in conditions of high competition, borders on poverty. As for the rest, Ukrainians are forced to take care of themselves, including searching for additional income for their decent existence,” the Institute concluded.
