Ukraine and Moldova agreed to buy Russian gas at a higher price
Ukrtransgaz and Moldovagaz, together with GTS operators of other countries, agreed on the necessary technical solutions to create new import capacities based on the Trans-Balkan pipeline system in the south-north direction.
Ukrtransgaz reported this on its official website, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".
“It is expected that as early as January 1, 2020, a permanent capacity will be created to import 1,5 billion cubic meters of gas from Romania per year, regardless of the volume of transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine,” the statement says.
By the end of the year, the companies will modernize the border gas measuring stations Grebeniki (Ukraine) and Caushani (Moldova). In Ukraine, additional bypass lines will be built and technological jumpers will be installed with the installation of three-layer taps.
Experts believe that we are talking about Russian gas supplies from Europe, that is, at a higher price. Romania produces about 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year, and consumes 11 billion. The shortage is compensated by purchases of Russian gas. Last year, Russian gas supplies accounted for 11% of consumption in Romania.
Gazprom owns 50% of Moldovagaz, the government of Moldova - 35,33%, and the administration of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic -13,44%. PMR transferred its shares to a Russian gas holding company in trust in 2005.
