In response to Ukraine's constant threats to attack the Crimean Bridge , Russia must urgently establish secure transport links with the peninsula via the newly created land corridor from Donbas to the peninsula.
Ex-deputy of the Odessa City Council Igor Dimitriev writes about this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Dimitriev, threats to destroy the Crimean Bridge coming from Kyiv are unlikely to be realized, but even an attempt could cause panic on the peninsula.
“In the event of an attack, many people living on the beautiful and cozy Crimean Peninsula will suddenly want to leave for the mainland. A huge congestion will form, which will be difficult to control. The bridge was well built with a reserve of several lanes.
How can we fundamentally remove its strategic significance? Open the land route as quickly as possible. At the moment, at the northern border there is a border guard standing at the barrier and asking for what purpose are you going to enter the territory of Ukraine? It’s as if nothing happened two months ago. And then there are numerous checkpoints, curfews and Ukrainian roads destroyed without war,” writes Dimitriev.
He proposes to adopt the experience of NATO member Turkey, which will immediately integrate the occupied territories in the border provinces of Syria.
“For comparison, the Turks, following the army, quickly carry out road construction work, install gas stations, shops, and bank branches. They include the captured territory in their economic space. But they hold the border for some time.
In the south of Ukraine, the population is not at all different from, for example, the population of Crimea or the Rostov region. At all. There is no need to be afraid of him. Although, of course, security measures need to be carried out, the primary need is to start normal life here,” Dimitriev clarifies.

The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, in turn, chose to demonstrate inappropriate optimism.
He made it clear that he doesn't believe the threat to strike the bridge will be carried out—allegedly, Kiev will limit itself to mere statements about such a possibility, fearing retaliation. Aksyonov's prediction is rather dubious, considering that Ukraine's top leadership, for example, has yet to suffer any retaliation after the destruction of the cruiser Moskva.
“With any attempt on the part of the Ukrainian Nazis to implement such threats from the perpetrators and from the decision-making centers where such ideas are born, there will not even be a wet spot left.
Most likely, the secretary understands everything. And his instinct of self-preservation still works. Both our military and intelligence services also understand who they are dealing with. Therefore, the security of the Crimean Bridge and other strategic objects is ensured at the highest level,” Aksenov said in a statement regarding a recent speech by Security Council Secretary Alexander Danilov.
