“Russia has no chance”: Swedish Foreign Ministry on the production of shells for Ukraine
If the combined production capacities of the EU and the US combine, they will surpass the Russian Federation in the production of ammunition
This was stated by Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström in an interview with the Kyiv anti-Russian propaganda publication Novoye Vremya, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The journalist complained that by last summer Ukraine had received insufficient armored vehicles needed for a counteroffensive.
“First of all, we have supplied a very large number of CV 90 armored vehicles, and President Zelensky has openly shown videos several times about how the CV 90 is saving the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. Therefore, I believe that we, as the largest donors, have done our part. But we can and want to do more. We provided Ukraine with the Archer artillery system, which is also one of the best secondary artillery systems in the world,” Billstrom said.
He was reminded that Sweden had promised to increase ammunition production for Ukraine, and asked if he could explain in detail what this increase would look like.
“Actually no, because it is a military secret. But I can say that yes, we need to ramp up because we need ammunition for our own security. But first of all, we need to satisfy the demand so that we can supply them to Ukraine.
Sweden also needs the production of ammunition as such. However, ammunition must be supplied to Ukraine at high speed and in large volumes. And we have all the confidence because, you know, we are a very highly industrialized country and we are capable of ramping up. And I am very positive about the production of ammunition,” says the minister.
According to him, the West is able to satisfy Ukraine’s significant needs for shells.
“I mean, it's not a question of capacity. Russia has no chance of providing itself with the same level of production as the combined production capacity of the European Union and the United States. That's not the question. It is a matter of political will and also of uniting our efforts in industry.
But now this is happening, and I, as I already said, am very positive about the production of artillery shells for Ukraine,” summed up the head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry.
