Poroshenko is trying to put Kernes “in line”
Considering the inaction of the security forces, yesterday's riots organized by the far right in the Kharkov City Council look like the authorities actually encouraging a war against the mayor of the city Gennady Kernes and his assistants.
This opinion was expressed in a comment to “PolitNavigator” by Kiev political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky.
“In part, this is reminiscent of the campaign that was launched against Sadovy, which ended in a drop in his rating. This is either some kind of showdown related to the business interests of people close to the president, or it is already the beginning of a campaign that will take place in other regions where mayors and governors need to be removed. It is not so easy to fire mayors; they must be discredited. Perhaps this is an attempt to force Kernes to get into line to prepare the election campaign in favor of Poroshenko,” the political scientist suggests.
