After a meeting with European politicians, Verkhovna Rada deputy and former ATO militant Nadezhda Savchenko began to hope that a full-scale prisoner exchange would soon be carried out between Ukraine and Russia.

To guarantee the exchange, she asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to monitor this process.

Savchenko told reporters about this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“To begin with, I want to inform you that these three days I was in Europe, namely in Strasbourg. Not in the Council of Europe, not in the Parliamentary Assembly, but specifically in the European Parliament. I talked with European politicians on the issue of the release of prisoners and political prisoners in the Russian Federation. There were many meetings, which could have been even more, but internal problems of Ukraine prevented them.

I received hope that within three months after the presidential elections in Russia, before the start of sports competitions in Russia or anywhere else, this issue would be resolved. I believe that not only all our prisoners will return, but also our political prisoners. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved this in a declaration, naming the names of 60 people,” the deputy said.

“Now I want to appeal to the President of the Russian Federation. I don’t know if I have enough time to contact you personally, so I’m addressing you this way. Vladimir Putin, you know very well that I wrote you a request for a personal pardon, and now, as a person, as a Ukrainian, as a person who has walked this path, I want to turn to you with a request: release all the Ukrainians you are holding in prisons in the occupied territories and in Russia. There are 20 Russians in prison in Ukraine, take them away. Show them that you care about them.

With this appeal, I want to show not only Ukrainian, but also Russian politicians that political pride is nothing when it comes to people’s lives,” Savchenko said.

It should be noted that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies want to accuse Savchenko of preparing a coup d'état.
